Audio Wordfind and Translation on the SMARTBoard

Here are a couple of short videos of how I’ve been using audio clips on the SMART Board lately. I’ll get back to my Weekly Whiteboard Workouts when I can.
For these activities I recorded words in Audacity and saved them as mp3s. I then simply added them to the gallery on the Notebook software.

Hi Jess,
Videos look cool. Just a couple of questions. Are you recording the videos with your new flip video?
Also, what are the other students in the class doing while these other students are using the board? This is a dilemma I face from time to time using the board. Do I select different students to use the board while the class is watching, or do I get them to do another activity and call up a couple of students at a time while the others are working?
Hi Mark
No, I didn’t actually record these with my new Flip video – I couldn’t as another group of students were eagerly and busily using it to record role plays out in the corridor – which might help to answer your next question. As much as I can I have students working in different groups. I much prefer that to having a whole class watching what another student is doing – although that can work as well depending on what the activity is. I try to have one group using the SMARTBoard, one group using the Flip, one group on iPods listening to recorded lessons, and one group on the computers for various activities. It means alot of time spent buzzing around to see that they are all on task, but I think it works well, and they always ask when it’s their turn to be in the next group. I prefer groups to whole class stuff generally – although I do do plenty of that too. Especially using the whiteboard though. If it’s group work, kids understand that they will eventually get their turn, but I find if it’s the whole class watching, then there is too much ‘ooh ooh pick me, he’s already had a turn!’ type stuff. Hope that helps!
Hi Jess,
love what you’re doing with the whiteboard! Wish i had the same tools when i was learning Chinese!
What a great idea. I will use it next term for listening to definitions of technical words in our information report writing. Thanks for sharing.
